Jonathan Wolf (Mexico), as a pianist and music composer from the National Music School (FAM), he creates his independent Progressive-Groove Project called The Frozzen Heads in October 2012. Because of his Symphonic Progressive Rock influences like King Crimson, Pink Floyd, Estradasphere, etc. and Classical Music, he follows his own genuine line, as his own beginnings in music with no more teachings than his cultural background, the books and written music.

After performing in the “Teatro de la Ciudad: Esperanza Iris” in Mexico City his first production with original music called “Head-Hunters”, both, the name of the band and some of the members changed. The name changes to PAGAN PROG-JECT, and it comes with the idea of a more consolidated project. Jonathan Wolf, who basically directs from the synths accomplishes the metamorphosis of the Free-Jazz and Progressive-Rock-Avant-Garde in a larger and complex fusion, that preludes more free schemas, enriched with colors of the band’s interpretation. Besides the symphonic music, his work is catalogued by “Emergente” Magazine as one of the most interesting experimental musicians of the National Scene.

During 2012, being a CONACULTA scholarship holder, in the annual closure of the program, he manages to play with a quartet a tetralogy in 16 moves called “Big-Crunch”. He performs in Kupuri Festival, in the 75th Anniversary of Sure Mexico in the National Sound Library, “Foro Hilvana”, Gouda Art Gallery, The Film Club Café, “Galería de Arte XXI”, Rhodesia, Jules Basement, “El Imperial”, “Centro Cultural España”, and many more places in Mexico City. He’s also played in tours in other states like Nayarit, Jalisco, Querétaro, Puebla and Morelos.

In summary, THE PAGAN PROG-JECT, is essentially an Avant-Garde assemble that merges instrumentally the sound of Academic Symphonic Progressive Rock with experimental particles of Contemporary Jazz-Funk. The intelectual project gives an interesting proposal in the world’s independent music scene, in contrast with experimental breaking rythms and harmonies, with usually ironic lyrics, filled with acid and satiric humour.

Jonathan Wolf’s creative mind can manipulate the music as it desires. So, maybe sometimes you may hear flutes and sad violin strings merged with the power of the drums, or a powerful woman’s voice dancing with the notes that come out from the sax, or just watch him alone, with his piano and synths, and his hands may take your mind and body to a whole new level of experience. It will always be surprising.
